too many tomatoes

I think Patsy and I have just this year felt like we have made up for all the years with out a garden. Our garden this past four years has been crazy big, with usually too  any tomatoes, but sometimes it's too many cabbages, or too many green beans.

So we are thinking that next year we might scale back a bit. Part of the plan is to plant winter wheat in one quarter of our garden this fall, thus making our own flour next year, but also reducing our veggie plantings by one fourth.

Injury right at harvest time was a deciding factor. As was running out of freezer space.

Even with the Septoria leaf spot, our Romas are producing well, and we planted a crazy number of plants. I won't even discuss the grape tomatoes.

What part of your life have you gone too far with one realized you need to back off a bit?

  1. I did not get out in my strawberry patch to weed well after they stopped producing and with me being busy, lots of rain and heat the last two months, the weeds and grass went crazy. So last Friday, after it had rained a lot for a few days, I went out and pulled EVERYTHING! I pulled out several of the strawberry plants too, as they had gotten out of control in the patch. I have been surprised at how many wild strawberries have popped up, too, so I pulled them out. That area is sitting there naked right now- where can you get seedless straw?😁
And the zucchini. I can never regret only spending 25 cents on a packet of seeds and getting the volume that I did. It was amazing.

    1. There is no such thing as seedless straw. Still worth it.

I feel like I'm wasting if I don't use the whole seed packet. That's dumb, as there is so much food potential for the price.

Even when we grow over 20 types of veggies, it's still minor compared to all the food we get.
